2016 Recruiting Resolutions Worth Keeping

2016 Recruiting Resolutions Worth Keeping

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions every year? If so, what’s the likelihood of you keeping your resolution? Often the issue with keeping a New Year’s Resolution comes from creating one that’s not realistic or even measureable. The process is a bit like goal-setting.  The key is to create the right resolutions so that you can make an impact within your human resources department. This month we have some great New Year’s Resolutions that with the right planning and execution, will help you implement your recruiting strategy better.

  • Have a Backup Recruiting Plan: If we learned anything from the last recession, we learned to be prepared for change. Having a backup recruiting plan this year and every year after, can help your company weather whatever storm a change can bring. For example, if you primarily source your talent from a team of internal hiring managers, find out what your options would be if you needed to outsource some of your hiring needs.

  • Have a Proactive Strategy: Being proactive in today’s recruiting environment is paramount. Just like having a backup plan, hiring managers must adopt a proactive way of thinking with their business. With the impending impact of the Baby Boomers retiring, companies can expect many hiring challenges within the next five years. Being proactive will help limit whatever obstacles come your way and will enable you to reach your company’s goals.

  • Have an Active Strategy to Engage Millennials: Have you been able to effectively target millennials this year or do you think your plan needs more work? Do you even have a strategy in place? It comes down to a numbers game, and all the statistical data reports that Millennials will be the ongoing solution to the Baby Boomer problem.  Having an effective strategy to recruit them will help your business achieve its hiring goals.

  • Attend More Recruiting/Industry Conferences: This resolution is a necessary one and doesn’t have to get costly either. Search for at least one to two recruiting/industry conferences to attend this year. Attending seminars/workshops, listening to keynote speakers and overall networking can generate excellent ideas to keep your recruiting efforts thriving. Find out what other companies are doing and see if their strategies can work for you. Typically, when you attend a great conference, you can walk away with a wealth of information.

  • Have a Plan in Place to Improve Corporate Culture: Have you been making steady strides to improve your corporate culture? You’ve heard over the last several years how more and more job seekers, Millennials in particular, are demanding more from a company’s work environment such as professional development, corporate giving, volunteerism and sustainability. Does your business promote positivity and team work? Employees don’t want to work in a negative environment anymore. They want a better work experience, a collaborative one that helps a customer, while serving a greater good.

Inc Magazine recently published an article discussing how to maintain your resolutions you create called, “Why Every Leader Should Make This Resolution In 2016.” The article suggests creating better meetings that allow employees to connect better can help make those resolutions a reality.   These are just a few New Year’s Resolutions that can help you get on track or maintain a successful year of recruiting.
