Hot Job Locations for 2015

Hot Job Locations for 2015

Location-sighs

In June of this year, IHS Global Insight prepared a U.S. Metro Economies/GMP and Employment 2013-2015 report for The United States Conference of Mayors, The Council on Metro Economies and the New American City (See report and complete findings here). One of the many aspects of that report which we found intriguing was the table featuring the Annual Percentage of Change of the Real GMP and the Employment Growth from 2013 to 2015. Based on Employment Growth Rates estimates for 2015, here are some of the top locations for employment growth:

– Palm Coast, FL – 3.1%
– St. George, UT – 4.3%
– Laredo, TX – 3.3%
– Greeley, CO – 4.3%
– Odessa, TX – 3.3%
– Myrtle Beach-North Myrtle Beach-Conway, SC – 3.1%
– Naples-Marco Island, FL 3.5%
– McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, TX – 3.4%
– Provo-Orem, UT – 3.4%
– Midland, TX – 4.3%
– Raleigh-Cary, NC – 3.2%
– Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, TX – 3.2%
– Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale, AZ – 3.2%
– Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, CA – 3%
– Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, FL – 3.2%
– Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, TX – 3.4%
– Las Vegas-Paradise, NV – 3.2%
– Cape Coral-Fort Myers, FL – 3.4%
– Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, AR-MO – 3.2%
– McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, TX – 3.4%

And in our local area, the Chicago-Joliet-Naperville, IL-IN-WI area, employment growth is slated for 2.1% growth in 2015. The study also goes on to state, “ The nation’s largest metros will see job increases as well but not at such rapid rates as only four (Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and San Francisco) of the 10 largest economies will rank in the 100 fastest growers.” Additionally, “by 2016, nearly three quarters of all metros (269) will have unemployment rates below 6%.”

That’s exceptionally good news for job seekers. Other notable signs of hot job locations can be linked to hot real estate markets. According to Realtor.com’s Top 10 Hot Housing Markets to Watch in 2015 some of the hottest locations for real estate which shows strong signs of employment growth are the following locations: Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Minneapolis, MN, Phoenix, AZ, San Jose, CA and Washington, DC.

Although the climb out of the recession pit has been slow-going for some areas, the economic and employment outlook for many US cities is positive. If you’re a job seeker, and you reside in these areas or are considering relocating, it’s great to see so many options.

What about you? Do you live in any of the areas and have experienced some of the growth in your own backyard?
