US Veteran Candidates: Where to Find Them!

Some of the most talented candidates in the market today are veterans.  These band of professionals understand the fundamentals of teamwork, discipline, and accountability.  Many of these traits and more when applied to a civilian world create exemplary employees.  In fact, there are numerous employers looking to connect with veterans and vice versa.  But where exactly can employers find them?

The white house posted an article in April on “Helping Employers Connect to Job Seeking Service Members, Veterans and Their Families.”

Recently at a Veterans Jobs Summit and Career Forum, the First Lady, Michelle Obama, and Dr. Jill Biden, reiterated that their commitment to “service members and their families does not end when their service does, which is why they launched Joining Forces three years ago this month.”

Much of the efforts include a comprehensive veteran’s job bank, strategic employer partnerships, and highlighting collaborative efforts from governmental entities like U.S. Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Department of Defense.  There are many more supporters in this effort to help veterans and their spouses “transition to civilian employment.”

The most exciting aspect of the Summit was the announcement of the Administration’s Online Veterans Employment Center.  With many of the collaborative organization above, the job center is an excellent resource for not only veterans and their spouses, but also for employers seeking for the right fit.  According to the article, “the new Employment Center helps simplify the job search process by providing a single website which brings together the most important online career tools within government.”

There are other resources out there that target veterans as well, but this online employment center is clearly it’s one of the most impressive.  Joining Forces is spot on with its “career-minded” efforts to help veterans and their families.  The more Americans who support this cause, the better for our country and economy.  To learn more about Joining Forces, visit http://www.whitehouse.gov/joiningforces/about.
