Solve Your Biggest Recruitment Hurdles

BusinessmanJumpinghurdlesA recent study was published asking recruiting managers from small, medium and large-sized businesses what their biggest challenges with recruitment.  With more than fifty percent confirming that “Hiring” continues to be a top priority, we wanted to highlight some tips on how to overcome the toughest recruitment hurdles mentioned and achieve your 2016 recruiting objectives.

The Top Barriers to Overcoming Recruiting Priorities are:

* 46% Lack of Time

* 24% Lack of Budget

* 21% Lack of the right internal people for the job

* 9% No access to ideal software/technology

Below we’ve featured some tips on how to attack these hurdles:

–  Lack of Time: Although this challenge accounts for the largest issue of the survey, the good news is it’s arguably the easiest challenge to conquer rather than budget, internal people and technology. Time seems to be the ever-pressing issue with many things today, recruiting including but what can a hiring manager do? Getting more efficient in your day-to-day is the first recommendation. If meetings take up too much of your time, get tougher with your attendance and keep things to a minimum. Last year, we discussed ways for people to become more productive with their meetings so take some time and review the productive meeting tips here. The next step is eliminating excess steps in your hiring and interviewing process. Just by refining this process, a business can save time extensively.

– Lack of Budget: This problem has been an issue for some time and undoubtedly will continue given the fluctuating state of the economy. Still, what’s a hiring manager to do when the hiring demand exceeds the very costs needed to support it? We’ve featured some great tips on maximizing your budget here.  Additionally, LinkedIn featured some equally good advice with this post, “Survey: Companies Will Demand More From Recruiting in 2016, Without Spending More.”  This post discusses how branding, using internal resources and technology can improve your efforts.

– No access to ideal software/technology: With so much technology out there, it’s surprising how some companies have listed this as a challenge. Still, since technology changes constantly today, so does the need for better/faster tech solutions. The relentless need cycle can be overwhelming for businesses to handle.  Our first recommendation to tackle this problem is to evaluate your existing data. Find out where your talent is coming from right now and where the gaps are within your talent pool. Understanding that first, will help you plan for not only better recruiting efforts, but better tech solutions.

– Important Tip for All of the above: In the same survey, “6 in 10 Employers” surveyed confirmed they “Use Staffing & Recruiting Agencies to Help with Hiring.” Those numbers break down to the following business sizes who use a staffing and recruiting agency: (48%) Small Businesses, (63%) Mid-Size Businesses, and (67%) Large-Size Businesses. Using a staffing and recruiting firm can offer a business a complete solution improving time constraints, budget issues and technology limitations.

Do you find that your business struggles with any or all of these challenges listed? If so, it’s comforting to know that you’re not alone.  You may even have industry colleagues who have the very same challenges that could provide additional support and insight.  If you’re concerned about meeting your recruiting goals for 2016, please contact us for a free consultation.
